What Do You Really Want?

RobinRobin Evans (http://glowingpanels. com/) is an extraordinary entrepreneur who operates a successful contemporary art glass business. But, as sole proprietor, Robin finds her time consumed by her numerous roles. On any given day, she may wear the hats of independent studio artist, award- winning designer, fabricator, bookkeeper and many more.

"I can get lost in the nitty-gritty, and sometimes grinding details, of running my business," Robin said. "That's when I feel my energy and enthusiasm begin to drain away."

Some time ago, in response to the many entrepreneurs who described becoming disconnected from their passion, I devised a Dream Peek Experience. This one-on-one consultation has proved to be an immediate way to reconnect a dream with the actions required to make it a reality.

During our consultation, Robin described how her vision of the entrepreneurial life had somehow become lost. As we talked further, I was able to tease out a major source of Robin's discontent: she dreaded the trade exhibitions that were critical to her success.

Creating works of art is frequently a solitary occupation, so Robin had looked forward to the human connection of being part of a large show. Instead, (wo-)manning her booth often proved to be an isolating experience.

Robin had felt stuck and in need of fresh perspective when she sought my help.

"After I worked with Jane I felt a huge jolt," said Robin. "The Dream Peek Experience de-fogged my vision and helped me to refocus on the big picture."

With Robin's newfound vision and energy we helped her to define her need to create a community around her business. Invigorated by this insight, Robin set about transforming the exhibition experience.

A major element of her plan involved enlarging her booth and incorporating an inviting seating area. This simple solution created a welcoming environment among a sea of impersonal sales stands. Patrons, gallery owners and fellow artists were soon stopping by to chat and learn more about her artwork.

The atmosphere of community Robin created not only enhanced her days, it also boosted her sales. (It even spilled over into her social life bringing dinner invitations that brightened post-show evenings.)

"I am extremely excited to have a plan where the heart of my business is the community I create," said Robin.

If your dream vision has become lost in the fog, perhaps it's time to reconnect with what you really want and to take a peek at what's possible.
